First: To place something first means it must be the first in time and number, first in rank and value, the most important. To place something first means that it becomes foremost in any place of your life, preceding all others to number. The first thing is the most important thing. Keep first the Kingdom of God.
Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these ting shall be added unto you.
When individuals are single minded in their devotion to God, their commitment to His ways and His principles becomes much deeper, much more intense. Once they made an enduring and serious commitment, then the peripherals don’t matter as much.
When we renew our commitment to Kingdom lifestyle and Kingdom values, those things about our lives that have formerly been outside of the lordship of Christ should start to align with His word, with biblical priorities. Seeking First the Kingdom of God begins to shape our moral, ethical and philosophical convictions and directly affects our responses to pain and hardship. It fosters strength in times of temptations and spawn courage and faith when we face impossible odds.
The kingdom commitment dictates our lifestyles and gives meaning and significance to all of our relationships. It even affects the kinds of relationships we seek. The word “seek” that Jesus uses in Matthew 6:33 implies being absorbed in the search for, a persevering and strenuous effort to obtain, to be constantly seeking after that which is important. To seek means that we earnestly pursue that which God has promised us in order to fulfill our destinies and enjoy our lives. Psalms 16:11 says, “You will show me the path of life; in your presence is fullness of joy at your right hand are pleasures forever more”. Think of that: God wants you to enjoy the journey! And enjoyment suggests worry-free living. Matthew 6:25 explains: “Therefore I say to you , do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink: nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing”?
Again, “Seek first the Kingdom of God”. You cannot have the Kingdom without the King!
