James 4:7. “Submit yourselves, therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
First, submit yourself to God and obey Him. Then resist the devil and he will flee from you. Submitting yourself to God means submitting yourself to the Word. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God (John 1:1). God and His word are inseparable
Let me remind you of Proverbs 4:20-21: “My son attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes..”. To effectively resist the devil, you must keep your eye on victory all of the time. How do you do that? By keeping your eyes on God’s Word, because the Word is the book of instructions for victory. It tells you how to fight the enemy. If you don’t submit yourself to God’s Word, you won’t be able to resist the devil. And if you don’t resist the devil, then you will be doing your own thing the rest of your life. You won’t obey God.
Whatever you do don’t rebel against God. Remember, as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God (Romans 8:14). And the Spirit of God will lead you according to God’s Word. The Word and the Spirit agree (I John 5:6-8). If you don’t know the Word, you won’t know if you are being led by the Spirit.
Every time the enemy attacks, the believer is to submit himself to God and His Word, and he is to resist the devil. He is to persevere and keep on persevering to submit to God and resist the devil and to keep on submitting to God and resisting the devil and he will discover a most wonderful thing – VICTORY!
