Discovering Your True Identity

You cannot be something by doing something, but rather who you are determines what you do. Paul did not say, “I do what I do by the grace of God”, but he did say “I am what I am by the grace of God”, I Corinthians 15:10. Remember, it is in Him that we live and move and have our being (Acts 17:28), even when we are in the wilderness!

God calls you and me into the wilderness, not to teach us to do something, but rather to be SOMEONE. The wilderness is a hard place; there are not landmarks, virtually no food or water, and no comfort. It is a place of scarcity, extremes, and isolation. He isolates us from our “support” systems so that we can get our eyes back on Him so that we can realize He knows exactly what He is doing.

Who we are must not be built on age, race, income level, or who our parents were or were not. Being and identity are not based on zip codes, W-2 forms, or other externals. Our identity must be firmly established on who God says we are.

When we know who we are in God, it won’t be long until we, like Jesus, walk through the door of hope – out of the wilderness – and return in the power of the Spirit!
When identity is questioned, it is also confirmed. With Jesus’ identity firmly established He entered the temple and once again located Himself in God’s Word.  He found the place where it was written: “The Spirit of the lord is upon me, because He hath anointed me to preach the Gospel to the poor; He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord” Luke 4:18-19.

He then closed the book, sat down and said “Today this scripture is fulfilled”!  Those in the Temple began to say, “This is Joseph’s son”, but it was too late!  Jesus had won the battle over IDENTITY in the wilderness and He would never be put in their box again.

Don’t curse your CRISIS; because God is going to allow you to discover your IDENTITY and to know that no matter what circumstances or environment you find yourself in, you will remain true to who God says you really are. Remember, you can find yourself in the wilderness not because the Devil is against you, but because God is FOR you. “You Matter to Me”.
Much Love,
Because He Is – I Am
