Disciplined for Service

presiderblogHebrew 12:6 says, “for whom the Lord loveth He Chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom He receiveth.”

The Christian life is compared to a race I which all believers are contestants, but all do not win the coveted prize. The race track is here on earth, and the spectators are the saints I heaven who have already finished their course. They are interested on lookers, veterans who are seated in the grand stands of heaven.

At the goal line sits the Judge who will present the prizes when all the contestants have crossed the FINISH line. This is a picture presented to us in Hebrews 12: 1-2 “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God”.

But why are these spectators in heaven so interested in our race here below? These retired runners will not receive their crowns and rewards until we have ALL crossed the goal and finished the course. Only after all have concluded the RACE and all the records are complete will the awarding take place.

We are to keep our eye on the coach (Jesus) and our ears open to His directions. We are not to listen to the cheering crowd or look to see how others are running. Only as we keep before us the example of Jesus can we successfully run the RACE before us, and He knows every temptation and obstacle in our path.

“Consider Him that endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.” Hebrews 12:3. Jesus Loves you – “You Matter” to Him.
